"After much soul searching, we accepted Rishi for who he was"

Author, Mother

Like many parents, I and my husband expected both of their sons to grow up, marry a lovely girl, and raise a family. When our younger son told us in 2004 that he was gay, we were devastated. We wanted to know why this had happened to my family, who was to blame, and what we should do next.

To come to terms with our son’s sexual orientation, we began to educate ourselves about homosexuality, a topic that we had no exposure to. We went to counseling and attended PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) meetings. After much soul searching and many conversations with our sons and others, we accepted her son for who he was.

In Loving My Gay Child, I reveal how we came to terms with my son’s orientation, shared the news with friends and family, and finally threw a beautiful traditional gay Hindu wedding for our son and his fiancé.
